What Causes Elevated PSA Levels?

my psa level is 6 i am 69 years old. Do not want to take a biopsy. Have had no health problems. What about 4 k score, can masturbation every day be causing psa to go up. No family member has had prostate cancer. I will not do a biopsy because it might be unnecessary and the test is nothing that I would do, knowing the process. What about the 3 D doubler test. Thanks, Dr. Chandan

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Single PSA value cannot be used for determining prostatic diagnosis. Your per rectal examination should be done. And accordingly if needed Trans rectal USG can be done for further work up.

If PSA persistently remain high and USG warrants further work up, then biopsy needed. Benign prostate hyperplasia and prostatitis can also need rise in PSA level.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
