What Causes Dizziness And Numbness In The Arms After Back And Neck Surgery?

I ve been feeling very light headed and dizzy and I also feel like I m going to faint . This morning I woke up with my left hand numb and my middle finger, ring finger were also numb and still are. I suffer from chronic Back & neck Pain , I ve had numerous back surgeries and 1 triple neck fusion and last year I had my lumbar triple fusion/ Decompression surgery and a triple neck fusion . Can this be any part of why I m feeling this way?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM
I'm Dr. Taimur and I will be addressing your health concerns.
I have read your question and understand your concern.

Associated back pain with numbness and paresthesias (pins and needles) can be due to compression on spinal nerve roots in vertebral foramens, which a very common complication after a spinal surgery. And you have gone through multiple spinal surgeries so it is the most likely possibility.
Other cause of your symptoms may be Carpul tunnel syndrome ( in which there is increased pressure on median nerve in the wrist), which can be confirmed by different physical examination tests like prayer sign and reverse prayer sign. Although in Carpul tunnel syndrome there are no symptoms in ring finger(it is innervated by ulnar nerve)
My recommendation is to get an appointment with your spinal surgeon and get yourself properly examined and investigated.

I hope this might be of some help, if you have any query feel free to ask me any time.
Thanks.
Dr. Taimur
