Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dizziness And Insomnia While Suffering From Diabetes?
I am a 19-year-old female with type 1 diabetes. I am having really terrible insomnia that seems to be mostly caused by an abnormally accelerated heart rate. I am also experiencing dizziness and agitation. I haven t had any caffeine today and this doesn t feel like a panic attack or anxiety. It s felt kind of like I ve had low blood sugar all night. I ve also had a continuous dull pain in the back of my ear/skull. I ve read about a connection with hyperthyroidism, but it doesn t sound like it s very common. Does it seem like it might be a likely possibility?
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to thyroid gland dysfunction, which can also be associated to type 1 diabetes (both are autoimmune disorders).
Coming to this point, I would recommend first checking thyroid hormone levels and performing a thyroid gland ultrasound in order to exclude this possibility. If these tests result normal, I recommend consulting with a psychiatrist in order to investigate for possible panic disorder.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
