Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dizziness After Consuming Large Quantity Of Water?
I drank a LOT of water today. I weigh 140 lbs and I drank 140 oz of water within 6 hours (between 8 AM and 2 PM). Earlier I had slight dizziness while sitting down and when I got back to my desk I had a slight bit of confusion. Other than that I feel fine. I did what most people do and read about the symptoms online, ultimately freaking myself out. The sites I read on said to go to the ER. Am I going to be okay? Am I freaking out over nothing?
Drinking lots of water won't cause the symptoms you have described. Most likely you suffered an episode of hypoglycemia or hypo-tension. I would advise you to get your blood sugar levels and blood pressure checked. It is posted that it was just a transient episode and nothing serious but it is always better to rule out other conditions.
I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write.
Thank you and wishing you good health.
