I am a nurse and have a patient with a PICC line in the upper arm. PICC was placed 8/26/14. Over this past weekend patient has developed discoloration from below PICC to the knuckles on his fingers. Arm is purplish. cool to touch . Doppler of arm neg. for DVT. any suggestions of what could be causing this?
Since the hand is cold, we should think of thromboembolism, which must have caused the arterial block. Get a arterial Doppler.
