Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Differences In MCV Test Results Taken Two Days Apart?
Hello, I had MCV test 2 days apart, different laboratories. First reading was 105, second 112. I had not had alcohol for 2 months. then only 1 standard drink. What is going on? I had a hepatitis A and B in 1987 contracted from a young woman who I had to do an emergency delivery on.
MCV of 105 and 112, both values are high. Alcoholism leading to liver disease is the cause of high MCV and hence macrocytosis. I suggest you to get MCV repeated after couple of months after alcohol abstinence.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
