Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Diarrhea, abdominal Pain And Black Stool After Eating Pork Meat?
I ate some pork for the first time ever yesterday, and it wasnt a lot of it either but it was a good amount for me to feel full. About 4 hours later i had some pain in my gut, then i had diarrhea (color: brown). The next morning the pain was very light but it stopped and when i finally pooped it was black. This is the first time this has ever happened to me and now im very worried. I dont have money or medicaid for the hospital, what can i do? Or what should i do?
The following are few causes of black stools: 1) Food and supplements that can cause black stool include black licorice, blueberries, iron supplements or foods high in iron, Pepto-Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) and other foods that are dark in color 2) Bleeding gastric ulcer 3) Bleeding in the esophagus
In your case its clearly the pork meat that caused diarrhea and black stools. Once It is eliminated from body your stools must be normal. If black stools persist, please do consult a gastroenterologist for further evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
