What Causes Diarrhea Along With Lower Backache And Vomiting?

I periodically, 2-3 times a year sometimes more over the last 5yrs have been dealing with these symptoms. This only happens at night, diarrhea, lower back and flank pain, sometimes vomiting is coupled with diarrhea, and chills. It is very intense initially and goes away after a few hours and I can return to sleeping and wake up feeling relatively fine...what is this??

Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this:

1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [gastroenterologist] and to confirm it do few investigations like [Capsule endoscopy, Colonoscopy, and CBC with differential].

2) Discuss about prescription medications like [Ciprofloxacin and metronidazole], Vitamin B 12 and calcium.Take other medications after investigations only.

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Try to limit dairy products and use an enzyme product such as Lactaid may help as well and it is an OTC product.

2) Try avoiding butter, margarine, cream sauces and fried foods, broccoli, cauliflower, and nuts, seeds, corn, popcorn, spicy foods, alcohol, and caffeine et cetera.

3) Eat small meals. You may find you feel better eating five or six small meals a day rather than two or three larger ones.

4) Drink plenty of liquids. Try to drink plenty of fluids daily. Water is best. Alcohol and beverages that contain caffeine stimulate your intestines and can make diarrhea worse, while carbonated drinks frequently produce gas.

5) Consider multivitamins and probiotics regularly.

6) Try to avoid smoking and make a plan to reduce stress.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
