Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently started taking Citolapram (Celexa) and I just experienced watery stool that is orange in color. I called my pharmacist and she said she hasn t heard of that side effect and to call my doctor. My doctors office is closed today. Is this a side effect I should be concerned about?
Diarrhea can be a side effect of the drug citalopram. It is generally due to stimulation of serotonin receptors of gut. It may also indicate allergic reaction of body to the drug.
I recommend you not to stop taking the drug by your own. Taking drug at low doses and gradually increasing the dose or using brand medicine instead of generic ones can be done can be tried. Also taking drug with meals may help. However, you need to consult and discuss all this with your treating doctor.
Hope this information helps. Feel free to ask any more doubts. Thanks.
