What Causes Delayed Periods?

I had my periods on 27th sept and since then I havent had it again. I took a pregnancy test on 7th November and it came negative. If I was pregnant the test would be positive right? Given that I took it after the scheduled menstruation date. What could be the reason? How do I get my periods to start soon?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Absentpregnancy test 8 days after expected menstruation date confirmspregnancy to be -ve.
Absent pregnancy in child bearing agewithdelayed periods suggest -severe weakness,/anemia,physical or psychological stress, endovrinal problem (like thyroid or ovarian)pcod ,uterine fibroid or early menopause .
Usually when pregnancy is excluded... a short course of hormones is given to stimulate bleeding, internal examination ,hormonal assessment &usg scan is done to pin point the cause followed by specific medication.
Please consult a gynecologist.
Thanks.
