Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my doctor put me on Femara and he recently increased me to two pills 5-9 days. My periods began to be regular. Last month my period began Sept 12. However, this month it is late. I m not certain if in pregnant or if femara is delaying my period. I bought two pregnancy test from the $1 store because I didn t want to waste money. I took both test, however they re both negative. Should I be concerned?
Dear Patient, Thanks for contacting HCM As you may know Femara (letrazole) is used for treatment of local or metastatic breast cancer that is hormone receptor positive or has an unknown receptor status in postmenopausal women. Letrazole is a aromatase inhibitor (aromatase is required for synthesis of estrogen) which decrease the level of estrogen and this decrease in estrogen may cause delayed periods . Hence, use of femara may cause delayed periods. I would suggest you to wait one more week and again have pregnancy test and if still it is negative and your period hasn't arrived you can contact your obs and gynae doctor to rule out pregnacy but delayed periods with use of femara is normal and expected. Hope this has helped you Regard
