What Causes Delayed Periods Post Amitriptyline Withdrawal?
Hi. I had been taking amytriptiline for a year and half. and since the last our months my periods became very regular, every 28 days. very light and 3 very short. I suddenly stopped taking it 3 weeks ago. My period was due three days ago. I took a pregnancy test today and it came back negative. Could I be missing my period due to stopping taking the amytriptiline?

- Amitryptiline is not known to regulate menstrual cycle. So delay following it's withdrawal is not possible.
- Amilotryptiline has possibility of weight gain-which may cause irregular periods --by insulin resistance.
- Please get urine pregnancy test done after 10 days delay in periods to confirm/exclude pregnancy.
- In case the pregnancy test remains -ve , you need investigations for menses irregularity.
