What Causes Delayed Periods After Medical Abortion?

I had a medical abortion and it was successful, at least so the doctor said. 15 days later I got my first period, which was a bit heavier than normal and lasted for almost 2 weeks. Now it has been 30 days and I was expecting for my period to kick in again as my cycle varies between 25-28 days. My husband and I have been intimate, but we have been very admin about using protection (spermicide) as we do not want to go through this ever Again. Is it normal for the period to skip or be late the second month???? Or did our protection fail???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

After an abortion, you are having irregular periods but the risk of pregnancy still exists. Do a pregnancy home test at least 5 days of delayed period. You can think to use contraception pills every day to provide better protection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
