What Causes Delayed Periods After Donating Eggs?

I recently donated eggs, and am wondering if I could be pregnant or just really late on my monthly. I had breakthrough bleeding 5 days after the procedure and it lasted 4 days. I did not take birth control and have been having unprotected sex with my husband, because we are TTC. But the procedure was exactly one month ago and my period was supposed to come 12 days after. What should I do? Pregnancy tests done at home say negative, however they are the cheap ones.

Hello dear thanks for writing in.
I would probably say, during ovarian stimulation the sex hormones rise to maximum and following egg pick up it drops suddenly and may cause withdrawl bleeding. And also, it takes a while for some women for restoration of hormonal balance and restart ovulation. As you have already done your pregnancy tests, and it is negative, it is nothing to worry about. And all you need to do is just wait till you get your periods. If you don't get your periods even after 35 days of your last bleeding episode, you may consider consulting your OB/GYN who probably may do a scan to see if any follicle is coming up which suggests ovulation and hence periods or pregnancy. If there is no follicular activity, you may be given a course of progestogen tablets for 5 days to 10 days after stopping which you get your periods in a week and later you can expect regular ovulation without hassles.
Hope this information helped. Take care!
