Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello! I had my last period April 17-21st. I then had unprotected sex on the 22nd then took Plan B the next morning(23rd). I had brown spotting the 27-29th. Then had sex again using the pull out method April 30 into the morning of May 1st. Then continued to use the pull out method on May 3rd, 6th, 12th, and 21st. My next expected period was supposed to be May 15th, however I did not get my period. It is June 1st and I still have not gotten my period. Should I be concerned?
Pregnancy must be excluded. The emergency contraceptive plan-B contains a high dose of synthetic hormone levonorgestrel which acts to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.
The high dose of the hormone could have affected your menstrual cycle leading to a delayed period.
However, since you have used plan-B only after one unprotected sexual act on 23rd April and thereafter you have had multiple sexual acts by using the 'pull out' method.
The fact that pre-coital secretions do contain sufficient number of active sperms so the possibility of pregnancy should be ruled out by doing the home pregnancy test on an early morning urine sample or by beta HCG test.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
