General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
When semen is ejaculated, it is thick and gelatinous. Semen eventually liquefies to enable the sperm to swim better. Normally, it should liquefy within 20 to 30 minutes of ejaculation.
Delayed liquefaction of semen more than 1 hour after ejaculation may indicate disorders of accessory gland function. Delayed liquefaction would cause reduced sperm motility due to increased viscosity.
To assess what could be the reason for this, Split Ejaculate Analysis in the form of two samples collection during single ejaculation should be performed.
Infection of the accessory gland function needs to be identified by Semen culture and sensitivity test. Antibiotic course can be taken as per the semen culture and sensitivity report. Following this, it is necessary to assess its effectiveness by semen analysis.
Along with this, drink sufficient quantity of water to maintain hydration. Avoid smoking and alcohol if you are habituated to. kindly avoid too much of coffee and tea. Include lot of fruits and green vegetables in your diet.
As it is proved now oxidative stress is one of the reason behind high viscosity, you can take Antioxidant tablets like Vitamin E, Selenium and Zinc regularly.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
