What Causes Delay In Periods Despite Having Safe Sex?

Hi Doc my girlfriend had her period on the 12 to 17 th of January. We had sex on the 19 and 20th and on the 21st she took postinor 2. She experienced small bleeding for some days after almost a week of intake. We had sex again on the 29 and 30th of January but I never came inside her, never when we have sex. Her period is due on the 12 just like how she had her period last month but there are no signs yet of menstruation and it s now 17. Is it possible she is pregnant or delayed periods? Thanks

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

Delay in periods is a common problem after intake of postinor 2. The delayed periods are due to effect of high dose of levnorgestrel in postinor 2. your periods may be delayed for 1-2 cycles. The chances of pregnancy are less post intake of postinor 2.
The little bleeding you had a week after intake of postinor 2 should be breakthrough bleeding & this type of bleeding normally occurs after intake of an emergency contraceptive pill. Breakthrough bleeding most probaby means that intake of postinor 2 was successful in preventing pregnancy.
First of all having unprotected sex & taking postinor later cannot be termed as safe sex. Postinor 2 is an emergency contraceptive & should not be used as regular method of contraception. Emergency contraceptive pills have higher side effects than other regular methods of contraception such as regular birth control pill, condom etc.

If your next period is delayed by more than 2 weeks you should undergo a pregnancy test to rule-out pregnancy possibility
