What Causes Decreased Platelet Count After An Aortic Valve Replacement?
My dad is 85 years old. Has lots of health issues he is in a long term facility following an aortic value replacement. His platelet is 116, on 4/20 it was 170. His doctor says it is adequate. Do you agree and what can be some reasons for the decrease?

I really appreciate your concern, here the main concern should be his clinical condition and symptoms and not the test result if he does not have any clinical symptoms which indicative of due to low platelet this is nothing to worry, some time even after the low platelet patient does not have any clinical symptoms that is due to healthy cell, hope this information helps ( with the valvular heart disease such low platelet is common )
