What Causes Decrease In Vitamin B12 Levels Despite Taking Supplements?

I have very low B12 levels. It has been over a year since it was first discovered. At the time my level was 132. The highest it has been at any given time was 400. I am currently on over 6k units of B12 which are under the tongue supplements and injections but my levels are going down. My PC doesn t seem to care, but my nuerologist has now sent me to a hematologist which I will see in a couple of weeks. I have developed Fibromyalsia and well as a wide variety of issues from the B12 issue. What could be causing the problem? What should I expect from my first visit with the hematologist?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Decrease in vitamin B12 may be due to poor diet. Take eggs, salmon, tuna, cereals, yogurt, cheese, etc. When the absorption capacity is low deficiency may occur. The cause can be immune disease, Crohn's disease, atrophic gastritis, etc. It can be pernicious anemia due to low B12 absorption in the blood. Do get it checked by a hematologist and get treated at the earliest. Lack of sunlight also reduces vitamin B12. Switch on to healthy lifestyle.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
