What Causes Darkening Of Labia Minora?

My girlfriend has a slightly darker labia minora and is worried something could have caused it, she has issues with her menstrual cycle (two weeks ago was the first time she had a period in two months) has recently changed her birth control (for the fourth time) and we are also very sexually active. she is afraid to ask her doctor so I figured I would ask the doctors here. she is also slightly over weight. Thank you in advance, I want to reassure her that she is alright.

I have gone through your query.Usually labia will be dark brown or pinkish.It is due to the sex hormonal action there.This will be evident more in their sexually active period or puberty.As she is having a irregular menstrual period it is better to rule out thyroid irregularities by doing a thyroid profile and PCOS by doing an ultrasound examination.If PCOS is present she will be better if she loose some weight.Drugs like metformin and Liraglutide injection are helpful in such condition.Hope this may help you.
