General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking.I understand your concern. The dark marks around cheeks during pregnancy /lactation are due to increased thyroid hormones necessary for the conditions.Such pigmentation mostly goes away stopping baby feeds. Even if they are they can be easily managed by skin lightening cremes available in market.use best of them. They can not cleared by further pregnancies ( when again the thyroid hormone gets raised).. The dark stains retained after pregnancy/ lactation & do not respond to skin , need need further evaluation & specific treatment..( thyroid problems, repeated removal of facial hairs , acne can be cause for retained pigmentation' Pl. consult an endocrinologist/ skin specialist. Thanks
