What Causes Creaking Sound In Ear During Jaw Moment?

I have this creaking sound in my right ear. It makes the sound every time I move my jaw, especially when eating. My right ear also sounds muffled or blocked which makes it hard to hear. This has been going on for a few days now, and I think it s caused by some sort of fluid or liquid in my ear

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

The cracking sound during jaw movement is a sign of eustachian tube dysfunction. Eustachian tube is a small tube that balance pressure between middle or inner ear and nasopharynx . Due to blockage of this tube person start feeling pressure of heaviness in ear . During jaw movement the ferquent opening and closing of tube cause craking sound.

Eustachian tube dysfunction occur due to conditions like :-

- Sinusitis .

- Post nasal drip.

- Chronic upper respiratory track .

- Sometimes allergy .

I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist ( ear, nose ,throat ) for proper examination . Doctor may order blood test or CT scan for find out exact cause and to rule out causes like middle ear infection or water in ear .

Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin) , expectorant and decongestants .

Till then give hot compresses to external ear and try to keep it dry .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
