What Causes Cramping In The Vaginal Area During 36 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

I am 36 weeks pregnant and at the last OB visit my Dr. said that I was starting to soften. Over the past three days I have been getting sharp pains in my vaginal area, and walking has become a bit uncomfortable. I was wondering if the sharp cramping feeling is something normal due to my body getting ready for labor. Is it possible to soften that quickly, to where I can be in labor soon? Each day the cramping is getting more and more frequent.
Thanks,
Ashley

The symptoms you are experincing are of prelabour.this may last for few days to a week. This helps in gradual softening of the cervix.
The labor pain when actually start are strong and painful and come frequently.
Sometimes they are associated with discharge and blood.
