What Causes Cracking Noise And Pain In The Left Knee?

Hi all. Im a very active 54 yr old male, play a lot of squash and golf. I consider myself very fortunate to have never had knee pain....until 3 days ago! I have pain now on both sides of my left knee, and a clicking (sorry no other word to describe it) when I walk just after I raise the leg to take the next step! Question is it possible to have torn some ligiments, or what can you advise in terms of treatment and care. I just arrived in Bozeman Montana on a business trip. Please advise! Kind regards Gary Clarkin

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Clicking noises in knee joints during movements points towards loose bodies and are seen in osteoarthritis. Ligament tear don't cause such noise. Physiotherapy may help in initial stages. After that, surgery is the definite treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
