What Causes Cough And Fever Even After Having Antibiotics?

Hi my son had sore throat n very high fever so the doctor gave him antibiotics and nurofen for 2 year old. After two days he started coughing frequently with slight fever. He is still on antibiotics I don't understand why he got cough inspire if giving him antibiotics

Hi.... Many thanks for consulting in Health Care Magic. Not all sore throats are bacterial in origin. Infact many of them are viral. Even if its bacterial, antibiotics are not going to reduce cough which us actually a protective reflex. They reduce infection that's all. Actually a throat swab for culture has to be taken before antibiotic & if negative antibiotic may be stopped. Couhh might persist for 7 to 10 days. Hope my answer was helpful for you.
