What Causes Cough Along With Wheezing And Chest Discomfort?

I had a chest cold with a cough and it was getting to the end stages when I caught a head cold and now I am coughing, wheezing and expectorating vast quantities (at times) of clear mucous. Wondering if I need antibiotics? Have taken close to nothing except a bit of OTC for a couple of days. Oh, and otherwise I feel ok except chest feels heavy, especially after a coughing jag.

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of wheezing, dry cough and chest discomfort which seems to be due to severe lung infection or bronchitis affecting your respiratory tract.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist once without any delay. Doctor may order blood test, throat swab test or may take history. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin or penicillin at least for 10 days along with decongestants and mucolytic agents. Do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt water. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Take expectorants. Steam inhalation is very effective for you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
