What Causes Cough After An Upper Endoscopy?

Hi. I just had an upper endoscopy. The discharge paper says to get medical attention if you develop a continuous cough. I do have a cough but it feels like a cough caused by drainage or something that feels like tickling my throat. What kind of cough is a concerning cough that needs medical attention?

Thank you for your question.

Yes cough is common after endoscopy because of the irritation of the vocal cords especially if its not productive cough. If the cough is productive the you may need further investigation such as chest x ray to rule out lower chest infection.

For treatment.

Anti cough syrup will do

If productive then antibiotics will help

Its important to rule out bacterial or viral infection full haemogram will rule out bacterial infect
If the cough persists its necessary check with ENT specialist
