What Causes Contractions, Vaginal Bleeding And Stomach Pain During Pregnancy?

Hi I am 36 weeks pregnant and today I experienced a gush of blood followed by a hard contraction which caused another gush of blood. I had a few more contractions and small amounts of continuous bleeding. I also have had a constant throbbing in my lower left abdomen and sharp pains in my stomach and vaginal area. I went to the birth center and they checked me and said i'm not dilated and had me leave. I just dont feel right...
