What Causes Constipation In A 4 Months Old Baby?

My 4 month old gets constipated alot. This time just give water didn t help. We gave him a suppository and he was able to get some out. It was really hard and dark green. It wasn t much at all. After I gave him a bath I gave another one and he fell asleep. When he woke up he pooped but it was soft and dark green with yellow. The poop was the amount of maybe 2 quarters. There was also mucous in the diaper. More mucous that poop. Should I be worried with the mucous and the little amount of poop after the suppositories?

However, if child is exclusively on breast feed and the issue is severe constipation, lactose intolerance, malabsoption syndrome , digestive enzyme deficiency, metabolic derangement and others have to be investigated in thorough details.

It would be wise to get prescription of Lactulose suspension from his pediatrician till the primary work up is concluded ahead. Home made spinach juices would also help great deal.
