Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Depo-Provera is a contraceptive method, which is made of a hormone similar to progesterone.
It is taken as a shot and each shot works for up to 12 to 14 weeks. In case you wish to continue beyond, you need to take the injection once every 12 weeks to get its full protection. It’s effectiveness is 99% in preventing pregnancy.
Common side effect experienced by many who are on Depo-Provera is change in the menstrual cycle. Many report to having irregular bleeding or spotting. Generally, after using it for a year, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. However, the periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Since you have been on the shot for a month, it is usual that you could experience such side effect. Gradually, over the next couple of shots, they need to subside.
In case bleeding increases and causing much discomfort, you need to seek medical attention immediately.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
