Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently deployed to Afghanistan and for the past couple of weeks I have had runny poops which have progressively become more and more liquid to the point where it s basically brown water. I m trying my best to stay hydrated but even with those efforts to do so, I ended up needing to get 5 IV s two days ago after I couldn t stop throwing up and pooping. I m no longer throwing up but my stomach is constantly gurgling and my poops are still completely liquid. Army doctors don t really do much besides turn you around and tell you it s probably just a stomach virus, wait it out and drink water...
Good morning I am sorry to hear about your ill health I believe that you suffered from a food or water borne infection leading to vomiting and diarrhea. This is a common phenomenon happening in military recruits, visitors to tropical places Apart from keeping up very good hydration typically with oral rehydration solution around 3 litres or more, I would suggest u take a course of antibiotics typically either ciprofloxacin with metronidazole combination twice daily for 5 days
Of possible obtain a all stool analysis and culture at your place Please don't handle food or water for others or avoid cooking for others till you recover completely. This would avoid transmission of any infection to others Wish u a speedy recovery I would like to hear from you if there are any questions
