What Causes Confusion While Treating Aspiration Pneumonia?

My husband was released from the hospital yesterday, treatment for erratic pulse, asperative pneumonia, and infection in his blood stream. He was in ICU 5 days and regular floor 4. He shows some confusion as to what day it is, where he is, and in general, what is going on. Refusing to eat and only takes minimal amounts of water. Says he is not hungry or thirsty. He has a superpubic catheter too. (Jan. 2000 surgery.) He is an MS patient and his MS is progressive. His speech is garbled and very difficult to understand. He came home with two antibiotics for a five day regimen. Is the confusion due to dehydration or pneumonia?

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, it is not the conditions like dehydration or pneumonia are responsible for his behavior changes but it is the neuro-psychological condition might be responsible for this, psychiatrist opinion is advisable hope this information helps.
