What Causes Confusion And Hallucination Post Whipple Surgery?

My 77 year old father had Whipple surgery September 2016. Surgery was successful but since then lost over 50 lbs, took physical therapy but can t walk alone. Recently in the hospital for almost two weeks because he fell and later that day got confused. Been that way on and off, with periodic hallucinating. Doctors did ct scans, MRIS and blood work and find no reason this is happening. Before surgery he was a happy normal man. Now he s a shell of himself and want to find out what s caused the change in him, along with the confusion and hallucinating

Hi,

What is the reason behind Whipple's surgery he underwent? Is it a pancreatic malignancy?

The age factor is the one, malabsorption and nutritional deficiency or secondaries in the surrounding structures may present like weakness and giddiness.

Lack of appetite or lack of food intake may lead rapid progression of weakness.

Pancreatic malignancy post-Whipple's survival rate is a little less.

So please consult your surgical Gastroenterologist, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
