What Causes Colour Vision Disturbance While Having Chronic Insomnia?

For the past three months, I have experienced a change in my color perception upon awakening. It occurs about once a week. When I open my eyes, my off white walls and ceiling are seen as either green or blue and recently, yellow combined with white. The wood trim is seen as a deeper tone of whatever I am seeing on the walls. I have also had a few episodes of a sort of distortion of what I am seeing. This is always at night and I associate it with my chronic insomnia. I do not sleep more than 2 hours at a time before I wake up and usually get up for a period of 30 to 60 minutes. If I look outside while I am up, I may see movement in objects and lights to the point of not being able to correctly identify objects. I have attributed this to possibly experiencing a dream state. However, I am becoming concerned that it could be a problem with my eyes. I would appreciate insights in this regard.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you are having vision problems you are suggested to get your eyes clinically examined by an Opthalmologist / Eye specialist. Your symptoms can be due to sleep deprivation. Since you are not being able to identify objects, any pathological condition (Myopia / hypermetropia, floaters, color blindness, cataract, glaucoma, etc) causing such symptoms need to be detected. Neglect will lead to accidents or mental health issues.

Insomnia is not a mental health issues but it should be treated as it shortens life expectancy. If need you can consult a Psychiatrist / Counselor you may need anti depressants and anxiolytic. Avoid addictions if any. Stay away from anxiety, depression (physical or emotional). Stay cheerful, stay active & take adequate sleep. Your treatment will depend on the clinical condition & pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
