What Causes Cold Hip Every Morning?

I am a 71 year old retired female. Since leaving work, I have joined a gym which I attend 4 days a week. My problem is, when I wake up in the morning, lying on my right side, my hip feels very cold, like I am laying on an ice pack. The left side is OK, just the right one. I have tried warming a towel to lie on, and heat rub but nothing works. It is very uncomfortable at times.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I would suggest to get X-ray / MRI of lumber spine and right pelvic region in right lateral sleeping posture. I suspect pressure on sciatic nerve sensory fibers at lumber spine or sciatic notch due to piriformis muscle. Consult a orthopedic surgeon for more specific advice.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
