Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there, I m very worried about my niece she has constantly cold feet and hands and hardly ever warm up, I ve tried to put on gloves and more blankets just in case she s cold but there s no help there. Yesterday her hands have turned a purple blue as well as her finger nails and now I m VERY worried! If possible could someone please advise me of what to do and what possible reason this could happen! Thank you so much. Bushra Hussain.
Very likely your niece has what is called Raynaud's syndrome. This is due to blood vessels getting constricted in response to cold and causes cold feet and hands and the purple color change there. It is very common in females and especially in cold weather or when putting hands in water.
If she has no other symptoms she does not need specific treatment for this but just watchful monitoring and try to keep warm (wear gloves, thick socks, scarf, etc). If symptoms are severe or she develops other symptoms like skin rash or joint pains or swelling then she will need to see a doctor and have tests done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
