What Causes Cold And An Altered Sense Of Taste?

My mother s been fighting a severe cold with a lot of mucus. She said recently anything she eats tastes very salty although she dosen t add any salt. She also says when she sneezes or spits up Flem, that also tastes extremly salty. Could something else be going on besides a cold?

Hello,

As per your query, you have symptoms of cold and an altered sense of taste which seems to be mainly due to sinusitis could be due to side effects of certain medications and it could be due to infection of oral cavity.

I would suggest you to take diet rich in zinc supplements as that will recover taste. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may order blood and swab test and start treatment accordingly. Do warm saline gargles and chew on sugar free candies.

For now, maintain proper oral hygiene, eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Also drink green tea thrice a day.
