What Causes Chronic Nausea While Suffering From Ulcerative Colitis?

I have been told in the past that i have ulcerative colitis. I have not been able to return to my specialist. Ive been extremely nauseaus, it has been some discomfort in my abdomen on the left. When i went to the dr for another reason, they felt in my left side and i almost jumped off the table, what can possibly be wrong?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Even though bloody diarrhea, mucus and urgency of defecation are primary symptoms of ulcerative colitis, it could also be associated with all the symptoms you described here, including feeling nausea, maybe vomiting, and discomfort in the abdomen.

The discomfort in the left side is typical if the left side of colon is affected and in this case the term "left-sided colitis" is used.

Tenderness (being sensitive to pain) of the affected area is typical in this case and this is why you felt that sharp pain when the doctor touched the lower left side of your abdomen.

Please note that: anorexia, nausea and vomiting (and pain) usually are manifestations of severe attacks. In other words, your sudden deterioration of symptoms might indicate a reactivation of your disease (symptoms and signs of ulcerative colitis come and go). Therefore, you need to check the status of your condition, ideally by seeing your doctor again.

I hope that I have answered your question and wish you good luck!

Regards,
Dr. Ervin Toçi
