What Causes Chronic Knee Pain With Catching Sensation?

Hi. I have had knee pain and catching for the past few weeks. I am 60 years old, active go,for, (ie, walk 18 holes three or four days a week), weigh 138 pounds. This past two days, I have had edema around the inside of my right ankle and pitting edema along the shin and calf area of the leg. No leg pain, other than the knee when it catches, or sometimes at night I ll get a cramp in my calf.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms denote the onset of age related osteoarthritis of knee which is the cause of knee pain. Pain killers and chondroitin sulfate supplements should be taken to reduce the pain. Physiotherapy and hot fomentation will reduce the discomfort and can be done at regular intervals.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
