Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chronic Insomnia With Heart Palpitation?
HI, I have had sleeping problems for two years now and one of the main symptoms is that I am very awear of my heart beat and can often feel it in my ears especially if I lay on my side. ( Left mostly) as well as feeling it in my stomach/ diaphragm area as opposed to the heart region. I have both difficultly getting to sleep and staying asleep as most night wake up multiple times with heart beating as if i d had a fright. I usually take some form of antihistamine and magnesium to help sleep and have tried many other sleeping tablets that I don t like taking.
The underlying issue for insomnia and heart palpitation seems to be related to anxiety associated manifestations of catecholamines release and insomnia as well. I would recommend a consultation with expert psychiatrist for detailed history, physical examination and work up clinically to find out the cause and treat accordingly without suggesting just xyz medicines of sleep.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
