What Causes Chronic Headaches Along With Sore Throat?
My 19 year old daughter is away at college and started having cold symptoms last weekend, including bad headache and sore throat. Yesterday she had quick strep test and it was negative. They did the other strep test and that came back negative today. They told her to come back next week to be tested for mono. She said she isn t sleeping well because of the throat pain. Is there anything else it could be or anything else she can do to ease the pain.

Your daughter seems to be having viral pharyngitis like infection
She can be given phenylephrine or levocetrizine like decongestant drug
Steam inhalation done two times a day
Salt water gargle done three times a day
Use hot water for drinking
Avoid excess spicy foods and fried foods
Take vitamin C lozenges
More water
Avoid smoking
Investigate with CBC and Auscultation with physical examination done
If no improvement than further work up needed
Consult physician for examination
Take care
