What Causes Chronic Feeling Of Tightness In Chest And Throat?
For the last few days, i have had a feeling of tightness in trachea and chest. At times I have like a sharp pain, then goes away. I don't have a cough or anything. I also feel that I am not digesting food properly. I don't have acid reflux but a feeling that food is not going down but stays at top of my stomach. Is it anything serious?
Welcome to healthcaremagic.com. Sorry to hear about your swallowing issue. I recognize the symptoms as having to do with esophageal dysmotility. Depending on your age this could warrant an esophageal endoscopy. A number of things could be going on however, is it related to cold foods, and is this sensation to liquids only or both liquids a solids. Note that a common theme with what you describe is called achalasia where the lower muscle of your esophagus does not relax to let food to pass into your stomach. In either event a barium swallow would be the first step to initially exclude mass obstruction and would help show is you in fact have achalasia. An upper endoscopy will be warranted down the line, this is the approach I would suggest to my patient seeking care for what you describe. I hope this helps good luck
