What Causes Chronic Diarrhea And Nausea Despite Taking Ibuprofen And Pepto Bismol?

Is there an intestinal bug going around right now? I had a loose stool for several weeks and finally on Saturday I became extremely tired, somewhat nauseous but not vomiting, with lots of burping, gurgling, and diarrhea. I am taking ibuprofen and Pepto bismal. Should I just ride this out? It has been the same for 3 days now

Hi,

Chronic diarrhea and nausea can have many possible causes, and taking ibuprofen and Pepto Bismol may not always provide relief or address the underlying problem. Some possible causes of chronic diarrhea and nausea include:

Gastrointestinal infections: Bacterial, viral, or parasitic infections can cause chronic diarrhea and nausea. It is possible that there could be an intestinal bug going around, but a proper diagnosis would be necessary to confirm this.
* Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): Chronic diarrhea and nausea can be symptoms of IBD, such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. These conditions require medical treatment and monitoring.
* Food intolerances or allergies: Certain foods or food groups can cause chronic diarrhea and nausea, especially if you have an intolerance or allergy to them.
* Medication side effects: Some medications can cause gastrointestinal side effects, including chronic diarrhea and nausea.
* Stress and anxiety: Psychological stress and anxiety can also cause gastrointestinal symptoms.

Given the duration and severity of your symptoms, it would be advisable to see a healthcare provider for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Continuing to take ibuprofen and Pepto Bismol without addressing the underlying cause may not be effective in relieving your symptoms. Additionally, you should avoid taking ibuprofen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) if you have diarrhea as it can worsen the condition.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
