What Causes Chronic Cough And Pain In The Ribs?

Hi I ve had a cough for over a week which is getting better. I ve been coughing extremely hard and my ribs and stomach are extremely sore. On Saturday I woke with base of skull pain and a stiff neck, it improves once I am up and active. However for the past two nights the pain comes instantly as soon as I lie down, it s no better if I lie on my side. Consequently I can t sleep. I don t remember straining my neck when having a coughing episode, but I m assuming I ve pulled something. However I don t understand why it only really hurts when I lie down. I ve taken over the counter pain relief as I don t have anything stronger and unable to get prescription due to it being the weekend. I feel the pain is worsening but understand lack of sleep doesn t help either. I m hoping you might be able to advise? Many thanks Kirsty
