What Causes Chronic Cough Along With Severe Fatigue?

Yes, please. My husband has had a deep, persistent cough which produces thick, colorless sputum for the past ten days. He doesn t seem to have any flu symptoms other than extreme lethargy. Is this the early stage of the flu-like bug that seems to be hitting Colorado right now? Would an antibiotic be of any help? He doesn t sleep well at night due to the coughing fits and the coughing has not improved as yet. Thank you for your assistance.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

As it is a persistent severe productive cough, I would suggest you see a physician in person for respiratory examination.

A chest x-ray might be needed as well after examination. A lung infection needs to be ruled out.

It can be decided after evaluation if needs an antibiotic course or not. It can be flu but a bacterial infection is also a possibility.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
