What Causes Chronic Abdominal Pain Upon Having A Meal?

Hi, I am going to be 62 next week, overweight female. I have diverticulosis, fibromyalgia, high blood pressure and a heart condition. The doctor is not sure whether to insert a diffibulator or pacemaker or both. At the moment or should I say over the last two weeks, I have had from moderate to severe abdominal pain. Worse after eating and after a bowel movement. I have felt like my head is in a fog at times. Empty feeling, like I m not there and feeling like I have a low grade fever. Sweats will come on sudden even at night, then chills for a while. It is difficult for me to explain what I am feeling yet I know something isn t right. Any ideas.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms are nonspecific, but these may be suggestive of gastritis, GERD or hiatal hernia so you should do gastroscopy to evaluate it more accurately. This is caused by irritation of stomach mucosa by certain food or medications, stress and smoking. SO firstly it should be treated with home remedies and changing dietary habits. You need to avoid fried food, carbonated drinks, coffee, alcohol and spicy food. You should eat more milk products, vegetables and boiled food. Also, certain antiacid medications may be required such as Pantoprasole or Ranitidine. In cases of severe pain, diagnosis should be established with endoscopic tests which include gastroscopy or barium swallow test.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
