What Causes Chest Pain, Severe Heart Burn, Choking Episodes And Breathlessness?

I have been having chest pains. Doctor has done an EKG - came back fine. Sonogram of gall bladder came out fine. Thought it was severe heart burn or acid reflux, but Nexium did not help much. I have myasthenia gravis and and doing well, with doctor s premission I went completely off Mestinon about 6 months ago. I have been prone to choking episodes for several years now when I am unable to breathe. I truly struggle to get my breath back, most the time a few sips of water help. I can go months without having one. The chest pain is near my sternum and can be extremely uncomfortable. Chest pain last 24 hours or so... pain lessens with each hour. Find lying down and keeping still helps best. Not at all sure what it could be or how to address it. My doctors next step is to check the esophagus. Linda

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Your symptoms seem to be related to a gastroesophageal reflux disease.
I suggest to continue using Nexium in the morning before breakfast.
I also suggest using Maalox three times a day.
I recommend to avoid food that can trigger the symptoms or to much caffeine.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
