What Causes Chapped And Cracked Lips?

Dry mouth. My Family practice Dr put me on B12 and Bioton. That was 2 weeks ago. Feel I have more energy but still have dry mouth and chapped lips.
My overall health is excellent but the dry mouth and chapped/cracked lips are concerning.
Any ideas of what else might be happening?
Thank you

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of chapped and cracked lips which seems to be due to excessive licking, biting and sucking of lips and xerostomia as it will remove natural moisture covering of the skin. It could be due to nutritional deficiency such as deficiency of vitamin B12 and folic acid. Need not to worry. I would like to suggest you to

- Stop licking your lips and apply natural lip balm such as petroleum jelly.

- Avoid sharp and fried food and take soft and fibrous food.

- Drink lots of water to maintain hyfration of body.

- Use mild steroid cream.

- Add lots of green vegetables and fruits to your diet.

Visit dentist once if symptoms keeps on persisting and start treatment accordingly. You should take multivitamin tablets after proper prescription and anti inflammatory medications.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
