What Causes Burning Sensation On The Foot After An Ankle Injury?

my mum in law recentley had a fall which resulted in a serious ankle injury. She is 89 and has just moved into a nursing home. I am worried as she has a burning sensation and her foot is still very flexed. She cant put any pressure on it. It is only 11 days since she fell and I appreciate due to her age and health it may take a long time to heal. I just feel that maybe she has torn ligaments,. Nursing home did take her straight to hospital and her ankle was x rayed showing no break. What is your opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Because your mother in law is not able to put any weight on the sprained ankle, it is advisable to have her checked by the doctor again.

Sometimes, fractures may not show in the x-rays in the first week from the injury, so if the symptoms are not getting better or if the patient is not able to bear weight on the foot, a review x-ray is needed to completely rule out fractures.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
