What Causes Burning Sensation In The Chest Along With Dizziness?

WIFE started feel heart burn feeling, got very weak and dizzy. She laid down on floor and I took her pressure in 5 minute intervals. 1st 54/40 at 3:06, 2nd 92/60, 3rd 98/62. The last was near her normal. She took two pepto bismal pills and pressure is getting better. This happened about two year ago and she had a complete heart checkup. Did not find out anything but determined it was not her heart. She eaten raw almonds before and today tasted a little pop corn. She is resting now in bed.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
I totally understand your concerns about your wife's health,

The sudden decrease in the blood pressure leading to dizziness along with heartburn are both signs of vasovagal shock that can even lead to syncope. The fact that she did all the heart work-up is reassuring in her case, and it goes more with the diagnosis of vasovagal. It can be due to any reason of stress, physical or emotional, and it is more common in young females. Tilt-table test might be helpful to make the diagnosis.
The heartburn is also a sign of vagal tone stimulation because vagal nerve stimulates the production of acid by the stomach. So it goes with the diagnosis. This is not a serious condition, even if it is really bothering.
Some rest now, along with some hydration are more than enough, no long term treatment is needed as this does not occur frquently is her case.

Best regards
